Alongside my research and design practice, volunteering has been a long-running part of my life. Over the years I’ve worked with communities in rural India, in refugee camp, resettlement agencies and in professional associations. Much of this work has been rooted in immigrant communities, and this page gathers a few selected projects and outcomes.
GDIRC (2020 – present)

“States Parties recognize the right of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.”
—UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Article 31
Since 2020, I have been working with the Global Initiative for Refugee Children, a volunteer group with designers, builders, and artists to advocate and design play/social spaces for refugees children.
Gharaunda Project (Summer 2017)
Gharaunda Project envisions a sustainable community environment to support the rural housing implementation and expansion. It is not only about designing a house with mud bricks but also about public acceptance, material performance, and supply chain. Many thanks to all the help we got from the kind and diligent people in Drishtee. Hopefully, this can inspire new practices for Gharaunda Project in the near future.
This report is a collection of research for the Gharaunda Project during the summer of 2017 working for the Drishtee Foundation in India. The project is partly funded by the Community Service Fellowship at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard Univerisity.
